Yes, tanks are neccessary for terran to do any sort of damage. Guardians can be countered by wraiths though so it's kinda do or die. It centers around one question: is terran prepared or not? If he is zerg can lose very quick, that's the problem.
I disagree with you that dropships aren't so useful on smaller maps. In my opinion dropships only work as a surprise tactic anyway, e.g. you cast a few irradiates, sacrificing a couple vessels. At the same time you send in 2 dropships and destroy whatever you can in a short period of time. Then zerg will have to clean up his bases and at the same time stop any sneak attacks from somewhere in the center. This is one of the most dangerous tricks that beats even "flawless" zerg users. Another trick is to keep one dropship empty, def matrix on this fake dropship and send it in so zerg wastes his scourges, then force him to pay attention somewhere else or just wait for an attack and send in your fresh & fully loaded dropship(s) at the same time.
So as you can see the idea is to confuse the hell out of zerg when and before you use dropships, what counts most is that zerg isn't prepared enough.
Because of all these cheap tricks gosu zerg users like to defend prematurely with a few lings. The only way to beat that is to have 2 fully loaded dropships with a couple firebats in them. Usually terran can't drop both of them unless he sends in a fake dropship first. If he loses one of his filled dropships he can't beat the zerglings. |
