About 100 homes have been evacuated after a suspected explosive device was found in a suitcase in the bedroom of a house in Hampshire.

Police were called earlier to Jessie Road in Southsea and a Royal Navy bomb disposal team examined the suitcase.

A 100m (329ft) cordon has been set up around the property while a decision is made on what to do with the device.

Residents are being directed to a rest centre in Devonshire Avenue set up by Portsmouth City Council.

Road closures are in place in Jessie Road, Francis Avenue, Esslemont Road and Devonshire Square.
